Catastrophic Backup Recommendations

Disclaimer imageThis section provides recommendations only. You should have a backup and disaster recovery plan, procedures, and processes that meet your organization's needs and reflects the options that are available to you. It is the responsibility of your organization and/or your IT department to insure that you have a proper backup and or disaster recovery plan, processes, and procedures in place.

Introduction

This section lists the recommendations for FASTER customers to help design a back-up plan to recover the data in case of a catastrophic failure of IT infrastructure that hosts FASTER products and related artifacts.

Scope

The scope is to provide guidelines to create a back-up plan for the following applications:

§      FASTER Web

§      FASTER TWS

§      FASTER Web API

§      Email Agent

Backup Guidelines (Recovery Process)

The intended recovery process is to use the appropriate version of the FASTER Web installer with your database backup(s) and any other files stored on the file system to reinstall FASTER Web and FASTER MotorPool. There are also configuration files that you need to back up. These files can be used to review the previous configuration of FASTER Web and MotorPool and allow your IT department to make sure they have matched your previous configuration.

Once your servers are running and ready for FASTER Web to be installed, you can follow the following steps to get FASTER Web up and running with your previous configuration:

  1. Restore your FASTER Web and FASTER MotorPool databases.

  2. If you store your attachments on the file system, determine the location the attachments will be restored to.

  3. Restore your attachments to the file system if needed.

  4. Run the FASTER Web installer and use settings within the FASTER Web and FASTER MotorPool configuration files to make sure the installation settings are set correctly during install.

  5. If you have custom reports, upload your custom reports in the Custom folder on the Reports Server.

  6. If you have custom reports, place your backed up CustomReports.xml file in the appropriate location on the Reports Server. This will replace the links needed to have the custom reports show up in FASTER Web.

  7. If the Report Builder is centrally hosted and you have backup of custom report development files and RDP files, place them on the “Custom Report Development Files” and “RDP Files” folders respectively under installation directory of FASTER Web.
